St John 1 1:12
As many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God. Even to them that believe on his name.
We have the power to be the Sons of God. It is not automatic after you give your life to Christ. In the first message we were enlighten to know we are to be God's image or reflection. We should take on His qualities.
Image of God: Two fundamental truths about man taught in scripture are that he is created by God and that God made him in His own image. Man came into being as a result of special deliberations on the part of God. He is God's creature and there is therefore an infinite qualitative difference between them. God has made us like himself in a way the rest of creation is not.
God is a spirit He can only refer to "spiritual qualities". Image restored in the redemption of Christ. Okay for those of you who need clarification about redemption. Redeem: To recover, to ransom, free or rescue by paying a price, to be free from the consequences of sin.
So we consider ourselves redeemed. God said we now have the power to become the son's of God. Oops the word power. We have it within us. Now we discuss how to access that power and two attributes of God. Mind you these attributes have to be a part of us in order to be the son's of God. Not anyone elses son. So if you just want to be someone's son, anyone's son just so long as someone likes you, you do not have to have these qualities we will discuss.
Acts 17: 27, 28
"That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from everyone of us." "For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."
Quality #1: Truth: As the unveiled reality at the basis of and agreeing with an appearance: the manifested, veritable essence of a matter. The reality pertaining to an appearance, the reality clearly lying before our eyes as opposite to a mere appearance.
1 John 5:6.
"and it is the spirit that beareth witness, because the spirit is truth." II John 1 "The Elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth, and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth."
II John 2
"For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us forever."
Wow the truth with us forever. I guess you can only get in heaven where eternity is happening if truth is dwelling in you. Dwell: Abide, Remain, Reside, and Exist. Oops the truth is not temporarily in you. It is not truth when you feel it or when you can tell it. If it is not dwelling residing, and remaining you are not an image of your father. Only the spirit remains. As I wrote earlier God can only refer to spiritual qualities. So truth is forever.
II John 3 "Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the son of the Father, in truth and love."
II John 4 "I rejoiced greatly that I found thy children walking in the truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father." Oh so truth is a commandment. Are we supposed to keep the commandments? Yes I believe those are from the beginning. Oh those pesky commandments.
#2 Quality of God:
II John 5
"And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another."
II John 6
"And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, that, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it."
So we are commanded to walk in the truth (II John 4) and now to love God is to obey the commandments. oh and did you hear or see in II John 6 we are commanded to love one another?
So loving one another is loving God. Here are some scriptures about the commandments are from the beginning. 1 John 2:7, 1 John 2:13, 1 John 3:11, and 1 John 2:24.
1 John 2:24 says "Let that therefore abide in you which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the son, and in the father."
PAY ATTENTION: 1 John 3:14 " We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death."
1 John 3:24 "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the spirit which he hath given us."
That "SPIRIT" is Truth and Love. Earlier I stated truth is the Holy Spirit. Are you scared yet. If you want to be the Son of God which you were chosen to be these two attributes or qualities have to be in you. Not today and tomorrow but permanently. Because they are in heaven and God only comes back for what he recognizes.
1 John 4:7 " Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God: and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God." You only know God if you love. 1 John 4:8 "He that loveth not knoweth not God: for God is love."
So did you hear or see that??? You only know God if you love.
1 John 4:20 " If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother, whom he hath seen how can he love God whom he hath not seen."
I hope you realize I used only the Words of God today. These are God's words spoken by God. I am giving those words to you for a clearer understanding of what it means to be God's son. Today whose son are you? Are you using the power God has gifted to you to be His son? Or are you lazy, and forgetful, and think you are going to heaven as you are? According to the Word of God His sons are filled with the Spirit. The spirit is love and truth. Both qualities have been here from the beginning. Both are commandments from our father. The spirit is in you God said so. Won't that be a waste to have always had the power and you choose to be content with flesh all these years. To actually prefer flesh over the qualities of God?
